time

(just click "time" or "10 x10" to open a new window)
10x10™ ('ten by ten') is an interactive exploration of the words and pictures that define the time. The result is an often moving, sometimes shocking, occasionally frivolous, but always fitting snapshot of our world. Every hour, 10x10 collects the 100 words and pictures that matter most on a global scale, and presents them as a single image, taken to encapsulate that moment in time. Over the course of days, months, and years, 10x10 leaves a trail of these hourly statements which, stitched together side by side, form a continuous patchwork tapestry of human life.
10x10 is ever-changing, ever-growing, quietly observing the ways in which we live. It records our wars and crises, our triumphs and tragedies, our mistakes and milestones. When we make history, or at least the headlines, 10x10 takes note and remembers.
Each hour is presented as a picture postcard window, composed of 100 different frames, each of which holds the image of a single moment in time. Clicking on a single frame allows us to peer a bit deeper into the story that lies behind the image. In this way, we can dart in and out of the news, understanding both the individual stories and the ways in which they relate to each other.
10x10 runs with no human intervention, autonomously observing what a handful of leading international news sources are saying and showing. 10x10 makes no comment on news media bias, or lack thereof. It has no politics, nor any secret agenda; it simply shows what it finds.
With no human editors and no regulation, 10x10 is open and free, raw and fresh, and consequently a unique way of following world events. In 10x10, we respond instinctively to patterns in the grid, visual indicators of relevance. When we see a frequently repeated image, we know it’s important. When we see a picture of a movie star next to a picture of dead bodies, we understand the extremes that exist in our world. Scanning a grid of pictures can be more intuitive than reading headlines, for it lets the news come to life, and everything feels a bit less distant, a bit closer to heart, and maybe, if we're lucky, gives us pause to think. If you'd like to learn more about 10x10, you can read how it works.

With 133 galleries from Europe, North America and Asia participating, Art Amsterdam is the largest contemporary and modern art fair in the Netherlands. The fair constitutes a step into the spotlight for young talent and a platform for established names in post-war art. sea breeze

the winners

Thank you all for the nice and original comments. The wordplay with the numbers made me smile. There was a  preference for the odd numbers, especially for seven. There were eleven reactions ( if I count the three from Egmont for one). And that´s my number.( I was born on the 11th). And no, it was not really a "hat or random number"give away.

Ralf: You've used all numbers. Great!
Connie: Thanks for passing by and welcome to my blog.
Kelly: Yes, up to the next 200. I do my utmost...
Jo: Love your "6s and 7s". I noticed your wishing...
Sharon: Your "mathematically challenged" and the "#8 sneaking in  " are beautiful. I'm wondering if I made 100 numbers what would be your number? "Je ne sais quoi".
Karen: That's a beautiful haiku.
Egmont: You've discovered the use of mathematical paper!
Black and white: Love your 36 hearts......
Donna: Sure you can write. I love it. It's a beautiful children song. But how do the 4 horses divide the 5 bales of hay and the 6 carrots, without getting a quarrel? (asked the child in me)
Seth: Thank you . And being featured on Create Mixed Media was by the message on your blog. (so, I owe you a dime!)
Annie: That's a nice "short story". While making the numbers I  too had the association with  trains and the railway. Nice you saw an exclamation in the image of number 3. But it actually is the beginning of 5 sneaking in.

Finally: the winners: Ralf, nr 7, Sharon: nr 1 and Donna (please let me know which nr you prefer because 7 goes to Ralf). Congratulations!
Be sure, it was hard to make a good decision. My criteria: Not derived from something else, fresh and unusual.  Next time maybe a hat......
Ralf, Sharon and Donna: please email me your postal address and Donna your preference.

Three Give Away's

About nine months ago I started this blog. and today is the 200th post. I wanna thank you all for the nice comments and feedback I  received. So, time for some give away's.
For "The Week As Art" on Create Mixed Media  I visualized the first week of May in seven numbers.
Three of them are a give away (each mixed media on paper, 12,5x12,5 cm). Just leave an original comment on this post and your three most favorite numbers before Sunday, the 8th. The three most original comments are the winners.
On Sunday, May 8, I will publish them.
